The Department of Gender, Youth, and Social Service in Nyeri County, has launched an induction training for the newly recruited fire officers. Joe Gethi, the Chief Officer, Social Services, presided over the inaugural training session at the Nyeri Fire Station.

Speaking during the event, Gethi said the Department is collaborating with St. John's Ambulance, to conduct training on Basic Fire Fighting, Equipment (firefighting, breaking gears, rescue gears) Hydrants (ladder drill, wet drill, ropes and lines) First Aid, and Structural Building.

The Chief Officer called upon the officers to perform their duties with commitment and diligence for effective and efficient service delivery of the essential services to the community.

He further reassured the Department's commitment to capacity building, a conducive working environment, and the provision of necessary tools and equipment for the fire section

Gethi noted that a firefighter is a first responder trained in firefighting, primarily to control and extinguish fires that threaten life and property as well as to rescue persons from confinement or dangerous situations, hence the need for proper.

The training will run for three days.
