President Ruto vows to go on with the Affordable Housing Project despite opposition

President Dr. William Ruto has vowed to continue implementing the Affordable Housing programme across the country despite opposition.

Speaking in Nanyuki town Laikipia County after launching construction of 220 Units of the affordable houses, Ruto reiterated that no amount of opposition to the project would deter his administration from ensuring that citizens live in decent houses.

“We shall not be swayed despite all the court orders issued, we shall move on with this housing project until Kenyans have decent abodes,” he reiterated.

The president revealed that so far 120, 000 people have been directly and indirectly employed in about 40 sites, where the affordable houses were being constructed, adding that another 100 sites will soon be launched, thus creating even more employment for Kenyans.

“This housing project apart from the direct jobs it’s providing to laborers, has also created thousands of other secondary employment opportunities in the steel, cement, quarry, and transport sectors,” noted the President.

He added that Laikipia County was set to benefit from 10,000 Housing Units by the end of the project.

“We aim to ensure that every Kenyan gets the chance to own a house. Those who are renting and those living in slums, can become homeowners eventually,” he said.

President Ruto revealed that the government would import a further 3 million bags of fertilizer in the next two weeks for use during planting, at the onset of the long rain season.

“Our fertilizer subsidy program has started yielding fruits as this year we have recorded 40 percent more harvests than before, we shall strive to ensure that the country of food secure going forward,” Ruto said.

The President was accompanied by his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, Lands, Housing and Urban Planning Cabinet Secretary, Alice Wahome, National Assembly Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wa, and a host of local leaders led by Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu.

The President later launched the construction of Ngobit-Withare-Lamuria-Ngobit Girls and Kihara Primary Schools roads at Lamuria Ngareng'iro in the same Constituency.

Later in the day the president will Commission the new KCC Nyahururu plant in Laikipia West Constituency.
