The country continues to witness accidents, even as relevant authorities put in measures aimed at controlling the situation.
In the latest incident, 22 passengers, many of them students sustained injuries on Wednesday, in an accident that occurred at Karai area near Keroche, along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway.
According to a statement by St Johns Ambulance, the accident was witnessed after a matatu collided with a van.
"22 passengers, many of them students have sustained injuries when a matatu they were travelling in collided head-on with a van at Karai area near Keroche along the Nrb-Nkr Highway. The casualties received on-site First Aid and were taken to Naivasha Referral Hospital," the statement reads.
Most public service vehicles are this week being occupied by students going back to school for the first term, across the country.
The situation is expected to remain so next week, as parents and guardians take their children to school for form one admission.
On Tuesday, Nairobi Review reported that 15 people died in an accident at the Twin Bridge area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
The carnage involved a Classic Kings of Congo bus and North Ways Shuttle matatu, which collided head-on.
After preliminary assessment, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) director general George Njao said lane indiscipline and dangerous overtaking had a hand in the accident.
"Preliminary crash analysis indicates that the incident is attributed to lane indiscipline and dangerous overtaking on the part of the bus driver leading to a head-on collision with the Northways Sacco matatu," said Njao.
"The driver of the bus is currently at large and all efforts are ongoing to apprehend him. An investigation has commenced to establish the full circumstances leading to this crash to inform prosecution and recommendations," he added.
