Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika has maintained that businesses in Nakuru’s Wakulima market and Matatu stage will continue uninterrupted, dispelling fears that the traders were to be thrown out of the city.

While dispelling rumours that the market was to be moved to a location outside the city, Kihika assured the traders at the busy market that the market would receive a facelift and connection with water.

Kihika, who met the traders at her Nakuru office, also noted that CCTV cameras will be installed at the facility and solar power panels installed as well.

“We have set aside Sh 50 million, that will also cater for a 100-meter road tarmacking as well as establishement of a lactating room at the market,” added the governor.

She urged the traders at the market to form a Sacco to facilitate the disbursement of the soon-to-be launched Enterprise Fund.

The market’s chairman Gerald Kilonzo, assured the governor of compliance with the law, noting that they were anticipating the rollout of the fund.

The governor also waived arrears on outstanding on the remittances of the Matatu secotr since 2019, calling upon Revenue enforcers to waive the arrears.

"We are waiving the arrears but ensure that you pay what's due to the County Government of Nakuru," she said.

Governor Kihika also affirmed that matatus will not be moved from the Central Business District contrary to rumours that they were to be relocated before the end of the year.

"Nobody is getting you out of town. I know the importance of a vibrant city which involves a relationship between businesses, matatus and markets," she said.
