The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a two-week licence revalidation exercise.
It will be conducted from November 11, to November 22, 2024, targeting truck owners, motor vehicle dealers and repairers.
The exercise, NTSA said in a notice on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, is anchored on verifying all motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers in Kenya ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
“Through this public notice, the Authority informs all tow truck owners, motor vehicle dealers [new and second hand) and repairers of motor vehicles of a multi-agency licence revalidation exercise scheduled from 11th to 22nd November 2024,” reads the notice in part.
“All operators are therefore directed to complete and submit an online licence revalidation form available on the NTSA Website (www.ntsa.go.ke) on or before Wednesday 6th November 2024.”
As part of the process, NTSA insisted, a multi-agency team will physically inspect the premises of operators to ensure the accuracy of the submitted details.
On September 27, NTSA suspended the operation licences of 121 public service vehicles over non-compliance.
The PSV’s under various saccos were operating on several routes spread out across the country. NTSA Director General George Njao said the operators were suspended over non-compliance with the provisions of Section 5(1) of the National Transport Safety Authority (operations of PSVs) of 2014.
"Members of the public are hereby advised not to board the vehicles belonging to the suspended sacco/companies," he said in a statement.
"The Traffic Department has been advised to impound any vehicle belonging to the 121 saccos/companies found operating contrary to the suspension.”
The suspended included 8B Savings and Credit Co-Operative Society whose vehicles operate Fig Tree, Thika Road, Kariokor-Gikomba-Juja Road, Eastleigh-Kiambiu -Jericho-Jogoo Road, Buruburu-OuteringRoad, Donholm (Caltex)-Cabanas-Likoni Road, Lungalunga Road, Kariobangi South and Kangundo Road.
Others were Crown Bus Service Limited (Mombasa, Mtitoandei, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, Kakamega, Mumias, Bugoma, Malaba), Digital Sacco Limited (Nairobi, Embu, Chuka, Nkubu, Meru, Mikinduri, Maua), and Eldoline Shuttle Sacco Limited (Kitale, Ziwa, Eldoret, Kapsabet, Kisumu).
