A section of Nyahururu residents and traders have said that they want the government to quell the planned demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday to Friday.

Speaking in Nyahururu town, they decried low sales and slow business during the nationwide demonstrations.

Earlier last week, former Laikipia County governor, Ndiritu Muriithi, and a group of politicians who lost in the August election last year, staged a demonstration in Nyahururu town, but it was quelled by the police officers who were on standby.

Faith Muigai, a resident, said that the government should be given time to work and correct the harsh economic times.

“The economy of a country takes time to build, unlike a household economy. We get affected a lot whenever demonstrations are held in the calm town.

“Our children do not attend schools and we are always praying they get back home safe whenever the demonstrations are held,” said Muigai.

Benson Mureithi, a hawker, said that their businesses are always affected whenever demonstrations are held.

“We cannot just sit here and wait for selfish politicians and a few individuals to spoil our businesses. The former governor had his time to lead our county and nobody bothered his administration. He should let the incumbent finish his term and so should the President,” said Mureithi

The traders also regretted that politicians are not shot at by the police whenever they lead protests, but it is only the youth who get injured or killed whenever they follow the demonstrations staged by their leaders.

They also called on the youths to keep away from politicians who want to incite them against the government.
