Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa has expressed optimism that local residents were set to reap the dividends of the multi-billion development projects commissioned by President William Ruto’s administration in October.

Mworoa stressed that upon completion of the ongoing projects within the region, the youth, women, and adults would immensely benefit by accessing gainful employment.

“President Ruto has visited this region severally since his ascension to power and every time he comes with bags loads of development goodies for the residents of the region,’’ Mworoa noted during a breakfast show at a local radio station.

She expressed her satisfaction with all six governors for the cordial working relationship with her office to ensure the implementation of national and county government projects.

To fast-track development in the region, Mworoa pointed out that they are willing to work with all the elected leaders in the region, irrespective of their political affiliations to promote the government's development agenda.

She highlighted the Sh.3 billion Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Centre in Kisumu County.

The facility will offer a Fish Training School, Research and Innovation Centre, Fingerling Production Centre, and Nile Perch Multiplication Centre which targets to revive the Blue Economy ventures in Lake Victoria.

The Sh.19.8 billion Koru-Soin dam project expected to end in 2027 will control the perennial flooding in Nyando, irrigation, hydropower generation, and supply of potable water in both Kisumu and Kericho Counties.

In Siaya County, the commissioning of a level four hospital in Ugenya will enhance the provision of healthcare for the residents.

Equally, the construction of a Digital Laboratory at Mutumbu Technical Training Institute will enhance the skills of the students through the new technology and create digital job opportunities for the youth.

She also noted that the upgrading to bitumen standard the 27-km Bondo-Uyawi-Liunda road will ease transportation and unlock the area for development.

Similarly, Mworoa further pointed out the commissioning of the 53-km Mfangano Island Ring road and upgrading to bitumen standard 53-km Mbita-Sindo-Kiabuya-Sori road in Magunga Homa Bay. This is coupled with commissioning the construction and rehabilitation of Piers in Kendu Bay, Mbita, Asembo Bay, and Homa Bay.

To upgrade the residents' living standards, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Homabay County government have signed an agreement to build 400 affordable houses on an 11-acre land.

At the same time, residents of Kuria East in Migori County will enjoy improved access to safe and clean water with the launch of the Last Mile Water connectivity in Kegonga, even as their counterparts in Kuria West benefit from the Mabera Affordable Housing Programme.

Sugarcane farmers also have also a reason to smile following the Cabinet’s approval of a Sh.117 billion bailout for six state-owned sugar factories in the Nyanza and Western sugar belt.

The noble cause will ease the debt burdens and revive the ailing sugar industries like South Nyanza Sugar (SONY), Nzoia Sugar, Muhoroni, Chemelil, Miwani, and Mumias which are earmarked for leasing.

In addition, the Regional Commissioner said that in Nyamira County, President Ruto launched the Sironga Affordable Housing Project, while in the neighbouring Kisii County, he commissioned the Kisii Town Water Supply Project, the Kegati Water Treatment Plant to increase the capacity of the plant from 6,500 to 27,000 cubic meters per day.

Kisii residents will also experience improved infrastructure through commissioning of the Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko, Gekano-Gikango, Ndenyi-Manga-Motemumwanu and Muturmeki-Birongo roads.

Meanwhile, Mworoa has advised leaders in the region to work together, adding that she would like to be remembered for championing stability that has seen improved development in the various local sectors including education, health and security.
