The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) top candidate at Kisumu’s Golden Elites School wants to be a doctor.
May Maggy Sunday scored 420 marks, 8 off the mark attained by top candidate Michael Warutere who managed 428.
Speaking to Nairobi Review at the School, Maggy said she knew she would pass but never expected to lead her peers. 84 candidates sat for KCPE exams at the school, 9 got over 400 marks, while only two got below 300 marks.
“I want to be a doctor,” she said of her dream career. “I want to thank my mum; I thank the teachers. They have been really patient with us,” she added.
Linda Ayodo, the mother, said she knew her daughter was destined to greater heights, because she was focused, all along.
“What I can say about her is that she was very focused. In the morning when she saw that the results were being released, she started crying and I told her whatever it will be, we will take it. But I have faith that you have done well,” said Linda of her fourth born daughter.
Ayodo is a teacher at Lions High School, in Kisumu. “She has always wanted to be a doctor. I believe she will get her dream school; I also believe she will achieve her dreams,” added the mother. Her dream School is Moi Girls, Eldoret.
The school’s deputy headteacher Gorge Ambira thanked God, teachers, parents and management under directorship of Charles Ochome for what he termed as good results.
“I thank the teachers who have really worked tirelessly, and the pupils who have been behaving very well. Discipline is key in performance. I can’t forget the management of the school; director, manager, my head teacher, they have done good work. They have supported us as teachers and we thank everybody for this good performance,” he said.
In 2022, the top KCPE candidate countrywide scored 431 marks, while the top candidate at Golden Elites then, scored 429 marks.
