Residents of Kiboswa in Kisumu West Sub-county are decrying lack of security lights in the area, especially at corner Mbaya, that has been plagued in darkness, running over one year.

Led by area Chairman-In-Charge of security, Mr. Rashid Sudi, the residents of Mkendwa are now asking why the security lights along Kakamega road, went out long ago and nothing is being done, even as the lives of the residents continue to be endangered, especially during the night.

“The streetlights from town to the airport are properly working, including those from Nyamasaria to town, hence, we wonder why the lights from the roadblock to Kiboswa are dead and are now mere decorations, yet they are the most critical,” queried Sudi.

The residents lamented that they have been neglected to suffer yet they are expected to continue paying taxes, lamenting that the situation has terribly worsened the insecurity from Riat towards, Royal Swiss Hotel.

The residents lamented that a teacher was recently murdered in the darkness on the stretch of the road around Mheshimiwa Ocharo’s(former Kisumu Rural MP) home, even as thugs on boda boda rob people of their phones even in broad daylight.

They lamented that one of the blackspots near the roundabout is even near a police post known as Korege, which ought to be safe, but is among the most dangerous routes in the area.

They blamed the recent attack of a woman who had escorted her child to school along the stretch where a dead woman was also found dumped, and appealed to the government to move with speed and install streetlights in the area.

The residents lamented that whereas the area is rich in potential for investment, but investors are scared away due to the rife insecurity.

The residents have appealed to leaders from the area, including Governor Anyang Ny’ong’o, to speedily intervene and install security lights in the area, even as they lamented that such has been done only when visitors are expected in the area such as during the Afrocities Conference.

Mkendwa, Assistant Chief, Salim Kombo, affirmed the runaway insecurity in the area and plead for speedy installation of streetlights and beefing of security patrol in the area.

“It’s our plea to the County Government and the Kenya Power, to move with speed and install security lights in the area because security is wanting, right now and even our children at Riat College who have sought accommodation within the area, are contemplating moving away,” decried Kombo.
