Nyaribo must go, insist Nyamira MCAs

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Nyamira are still marching on with a bid to impeach governor Amos Nyaribo, despite calls for truce between the two parties.
The MCAs claim there are attempts to sabotage the process, with debate on the impeachment motion coming up on Tuesday next week.
The county legislatures want governor Nyaribo impeached over claims of abuse of office and misuse of public funds among other issues.
According to majority leader Duke Masira, they have the numbers to impeach the governor, a year after being elected into office.
Nyamira county Women Representative Jerusa Momanyi is among those calling on the leaders to have a sit down in order to deflate the tension being caused by the impeachment motion.
"They should sit down and resolve their differences," she said.
On Tuesday this week, the entrance of Nyamira county assembly was blocked by raw sewage and stones ahead of the tabling of the impeachment motion against the county boss.
Staff and security guards were forced to clear the mess as hawk eyed police remained vigilant.
It is not clear the people who orchestrated the mess and their motive. The motion was eventually tabled.
Nyaribo, former Deputy Governor, assumed Nyamira county's top seat in 2020 following the death of John Nyagarama.
During the the August, 2022 polls, he was elected on the United Progressive Party (UPA) party ticket associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Okengo Matiang'i.
In February, he got a major boost after the High Court dismissed a petition challenging his victory.
