Nyeri Huduma Centre on Tuesday joined Huduma Kenya in marking 10 years since the setting up of the program which was aimed at easing access to government services.

During the brief celebration which was held at former Central Region headquarters in Nyeri, Huduma centre staff and their customers mingled freely before they shared a cake to mark the anniversary.

While reflecting on the milestones of the nine-year-old Nyeri Huduma centre, Nyeri manager Florence Ndunge noted that a total of 23 government services were currently available at the Nyeri branch.

Ndunge at the same time urged Nyeri residents to take advantage of the extended working hours to access government services.

“Currently the services that are being offered in Nyeri are 23 by ministries, departments and agencies including the County government. More than 500 residents flock the centre daily seeking services,” she said.

“Right now we have even extended working hours from 7am to 7pm for various services like Civil registration, National Registration Bureau for those who have lost their Identification Cards, police abstract, good conduct services, Kenya Revenue Authority, National Health Insurance Fund and even National Social Security Funds and we are urging residents to continue visiting the centre,” she added.

One of the residents, Gitau Matete, lauded the programme as an effective tool for promoting public service delivery. Matete who resides in Kangema said the centre had saved time and money he would have previously spent travelling to Nairobi to receive government services.

The Huduma Kenya programme was first launched in 2013 as a flagship initiative of the Vision 2030 blueprint.

The program, which operates as a one-stop shop concept for all government services was expected to accelerate efficiency and accessibility to government services.

Currently, there are 52 Huduma centres countrywide providing over 40 services.
