After a while of silence, Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi has finally broken his silence regarding the political tempest in the country occasioned by the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement he issued through his verified social media handles recently, Sudi noticed that the impeachment of Gachagua should not be looked at as an attack on the people of the Mount Kenya region but part of personal actions by Gachagua himself.

"The mountain hasn't been touched," said Sudi, referring to the Mt Kenya region. "It's an individual who is paying for his misdeeds. When found guilty own your actions and carry your own burden-not the community."

These comments by Sudi have emerged at a time when political temperatures are high with arguments over what the implication of Gachagua's impeachment are.

He emphasized individual accountability for actions and never generalizing whole communities.

This perspective would not see regional polarization escalate and thus hurts national cohesion.

The Kapseret MP also berated what he termed as excessive politicking, which he said denies the government an opportunity to effectively pursue its development agenda.

Too much politicking is what derails the government's development agenda," Sudi said, adding that political leaders must put the nation's development agenda first before personal or partisan interest.

Reactions to his statement range from applause to attacks, both from allies and adversaries.

Some saluted him for demanding accountability at an individual level, reasoning that one must differentiate between individual actions and regional identities.

However, others have questioned his timing and motive to an extent that probably the remarks belong to his political bias.

The impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua has been so controversial that every other political faction has had its say on the matter.

His sympathizers have, however, argued that it is a political impeachment meant to weaken his base, as it aims at reducing his clout. According to his critics, all this has been about reining in misbehavior and restoring dignity in public life.

What Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi uttered on the latest happenings concerning Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment outlines the need for differentiation between personal actions and regional identity.
