Tharaka Nithi County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for youth, sports, tourism and culture Maureen Nyambura Kariuki has revealed that over 30 counties are set to participate in the upcoming Kenya Youth Inter County Sports Association (KYISA) games on Monday.

The CECM said that the inter-county games are meant to involve all the 47 counties in building one strong nation.

She disclosed that the theme of the games “Talanta mashinani” meant that the national government has devolved sports to the county to scout talents from the grassroots level to the national level.

“Youths have been selected from ward level then sub counties and formed a county team who are sharpening their skills as we speak,” she said

Ms Nyambura added that over 30 counties have confirmed attendance and are ready to participate next week.

She further revealed that all the facilities are in good condition and the final preparations will be done by Friday this week.

“We are here check-listing and ensuring everything is set for Monday. All preparations will be done by Friday,” she noted

The CECM said that the government is ready to support youths and games in the county, adding that sports is a great opportunity to deviate youths from indulging in immoral activities.

She added that it is a great opportunity for the county and a great boost to the economy to learn and organise sports activities involving youths such as leagues and tournaments.

On his part, Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Wesly Koech said that they are working with the county government to ensure the success of the KYISA games.

He revealed that the county security team has been working to ensure enough security is provided at the sports venues, residential areas and towns where visitors will be hosted.

“Tharaka Nithi is a very safe county, we are just tightening the security to ensure everything goes smoothly during the games and the visitors feel safe,” he said

He added that a very activity week is expected as schools are closed adding that this is a great opportunity to keep the youths engaged.
