With the schools closing for third term, parents have been urged to protect learners from engaging in wayward activities.

Laikipia East Deputy County Commissioner, Patrick Muli, noted that some parents were busy with work and forgot about the wellbeing of their children, which risked them from being lured to substance abuse. Some students started to proceed for holidays, yesterday.

“We know you are busy making ends meet, but don’t forget you have a child at home, be responsible. Let’s prove that we love our children, while at home and take advantage of the holidays, so that we protect them since drug peddlers target learners,” said Muli.

The Administrator added that taming students from getting involved in criminal activities at an early age was important, as it ensures they became responsible people in future.

Meanwhile, the holiday, which is expected to be about 10 weeks, will also give room for National Examinations with Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), set to begin on October 30 to November 2.

For the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), candidates are expected to start on November 3rd to 24th next month.

In Laikipia, about 12,746 and 13,168 candidates for both KPSEA and KCPE will sit for the exams. KCSE candidates will be 11,026.
