Kisii County government has introduced a cashless mode of payment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) and other sub-county health facilities in order to improve accountability, monitor revenue collection, and curb theft.

Speaking while flagging off drugs worth Sh24 million at KTRH on Monday, Kisii Governor Simba Arati said the facilities would not be collecting cash from the patients because the money will be deposited to the facilities' accounts for auditing purposes.

"I am happy to report that all our health facilities have gone cashless and I am urging the residents to utilize the system to conduct online payments via our Paybill whenever they access health care services," Arati said.

The Governor added they would work with the doctors in charge of the sub-county hospitals to ensure they track the distribution of the drugs.

He lauded the security teams at the sub-county levels for being vigilant and ensuring that drugs procured for a health facility are not stolen by individuals as previously witnessed at the grassroots facilities.

Arati assured the residents of Kisii that his administration has procured sufficient drugs at the health facilities adding that they would be periodically purchasing the same to ensure the stores have drugs.

In addition, the Governor urged the community to give room for doctors to work citing that there have been cases of the health practitioners being intimidated by a section of the residents.

He decried the state of Ogembo Level Four Hospital in Gucha Sub County and promised to give the facility a facelift as it serves a huge population at any given time.

Arati called upon the healthcare workers to continuously be at the forefront in providing quality healthcare services to the people.
