A multi-agency security team led by Ndaragwa OCPD Richard Mosu has arrested a man growing bhang in a private home in Mairo-inya town within Ndaragwa Sub County.
The suspect Clement Aruju Mutunga had planted over ninety plants of cannabis estimated to have a street value of Ksh. 20000.
Mr. Mosu said that they will continue with the operation to flush out drug dealers and pushers in line with the Deputy President's directive to fight the menace within the larger Mount Kenya region.
“Acting on information from members of the public, officers from Mairo inya police station visited the homestead of Mr. Clement aged about 33 years. The security team uprooted 90 plants suspected to be cannabis sativa within his compound.
“The fight against illicit drugs shall continue and wish to thank the public for their assistance, let’s continue till the vice is eradicated within the community,” said Mosu.
The suspect was arraigned at the Nyahururu law courts before magistrate Hon. Cynthia Mercy Muhoro where charges of growing cannabis contrary to section 4 of the drugs act were read.
Mr. Aruju pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh. 40000. The case will be mentioned on the 31st of May 2023.
According to security officials from Ndaragwa Sub County, this operation is part of an ongoing campaign to rid the area of the illegal drug trade and ensure the safety and security of the community.
Earlier this month, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua expressed his firm stance against drug-related activities during the funeral service of the late Mukami Kimathi.
The DP firmly warned that any security officer found to be involved in drug trafficking or allowing drugs to circulate in their jurisdiction would face severe consequences, including dismissal from the service.
