The National Government through the Ministry of Education has spent 5.2Million to upgrade the dormitory and washrooms of Kitonyini Secondary in Kalama Sub County of Machakos so as to reduce congestion in the school.
This was said by Kalama Sub County Director of Education Mr. Laban Siwili, who spoke during the launch of Kitonyini school dormitory and washrooms in Kalama. He said the ministry is dedicated to improving standards in Schools.
“The Ministry played a big role by funding this project because the dormitory has cost the ministry around Sh. 4 million and the wash room which has eight door bathroom and eight door toilets has cost Sh. 1.2 million which aggregates to Sh. 5.2,” said Siwili the Education Director.
He urged the students to work harder and be successful so that in future they will be able to export professionals to developed countries.
Siwili implored them to have discipline and sacrifice their free time to study and better their future lives.
“In future we may need to export our professional services to other countries so it is important to be part of the professionals who will be exported, which will happen if one is successful in school,” added Siwili.
Daniel Muindi a Kenyatta University lecturer and vice chair of Board members of Kitonyini high, said that the school has a population of 700 students and the purpose for a new dormitory was to create a conducive environment for the students.
Muindi added that a conducive learning environment will lead the students to feel comfortable and focus on their academics in class.
“As a BOM we know the problem was the congestion in the dormitory. Now we are relieved and we can even accommodate more students so that other students in the community will have proper education,” added Muindi.
He pleaded with the students to take advantage of the new environment and work even harder and move to the next level.
Muindi told the students not to look at the unemployed youth in their locality, because when one is equipped with skills then they can work anywhere in the globe.
“Our youth can find jobs anywhere as long as they have a positive mentality, they can use the internet to know where jobs are,” pointed Siwili.
The principal of Kitonyini High School madam Jane Muli said the students should appreciate the teachers who are always early to work so that they can assist them where needed.
Muli pointed out that starting from form 1 they have rolled out a program so that they can attend the students and get close to them, thus encouraging them to do their best and excel.
She urged them to make good use of their teachers and ask for help and consult if they have any queries, which will improve their confidence and performance in school and in the future.
