Police Confiscate Bhang Worth Sh.9.4 Million in Separate Operations

Police have seized over 335kg of Bhang Worth Ksh.9.4 Million in two separate operations conducted in Machakos and Isiolo counties on Thursday. 

The first Operation in Athi River, Machakos County led to the recovery of eight bags containing 115kg of cannabis at a building under construction at Kwa Mang'eli area.

One Suspect, a middle aged guard was arrested leading the officers to the owner of the house identified as Susan Muya. The bhang is estimated at a street value of Sh 3,450,000. 

In a separate operation, 44 bales of cannabis each weighing 5kg were recovered from a Nissan driving along the Isiolo-Modogoshe highway.

This follows an intelligence report that the suspected Nissan Xtrail Reg No. KBQ was transporting the drugs along the highway. 

Detectives from the Kinna VCP within Garbatulla intercepted the Nissan sparking a cat and mouse chase as the driver declined to pull over choosing to speed off.

The two occupants however managed to escape on foot, leaving behind the vehicle loaded with the bhang overhaul estimated at Sh 6M in street value.

Exhibits in both operations have been processed and preserved as evidence, as heightened operations against drug use and trafficking continue across the country.

This comes only a week after a similar incident in Homa Bay where police recovered 8 hefty sacks of Cannabis Sativa worth millions of shillings. 

Cases of bhang trafficking have been rampant across the country while the DCI has been on the radar to seize contraband drugs from reaching the market especially the youth population. 

Security administrators have called for concerted efforts by all departments to create awareness among wananchi in order to combat the vice.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ has declared its commitment to fight the illegal activity amd has upped collaborating with other stakeholders in the fight against the sale, distribution and consumption of narcotic drugs.
