North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno has cautioned police officers involved in the outlawed casino gambling businesses that they risk stern disciplinary action.

Speaking after leading an exercise to destroy casino boxes and shisha buzzers at the Garissa dumpsite, the regional commissioner vowed that the business will cease in the region.

“I want to assure the citizens that action will be taken against any officer involved in gambling machines business. This will stop because no officer will continue with that kind of business”

“Gambling is very addictive and most of the people involved in this kind of gambling are children and criminals. According to The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) these machines are illegal and that’s why we will do a crackdown and destroy them all,”

Otieno said that the security agencies are working tirelessly in the fight against drug abuse and gambling machines

NACADA regional manager for north eastern Reverend Wangai Gachoka had regretted that most of the gambling machines were impounded at police officers' businesses prompting the regional commissioner to speak on the matter.

“The unfortunate thing is that most of the gambling machines were nabbed from police officers. We are asking that let the law enforcers stop the conflict of interests because we cannot be breaking the laws we are supposed to be enforcing,” Gachoka said.

“Let us uphold the law so that as we do these kind of crackdowns against drug abuse and gambling, we have the moral authority to do so,” he added.

The regional commissioner was also joined by Garissa county commissioner Boaz Cherutich and county and regional security committee members during the exercise.
