President William Ruto has issued a permit of operation to Victory farms in Homa Bay County.
Started in 2015 The enterprise has grown to be one of Africa’s biggest fish farms, producing more than 50 tonnes of tilapia a day, creating more than 5,000 jobs to the ordinary people.
"Victory Farms by the shores of Lake Victoria in Homa Bay County is a compelling testimony of how the Government can support and nurture businesses to flourish and support livelihoods." Ruto said in a Facebook statement.
The Roo based enterprise has earned status as the largest fish producer in East Africa targeting to feed at least two billion people in the continent by 2050.
The company’s founders, Joe and Steve, put their first cages in the water, with the help of the talented people of Homa Bay County, in 2016 and six years later.
It enjoys a customer base of thousands of market women who buy its fish in small batches each day from our 50 (and growing) branches across Nairobi and Western Kenya. They fry the fish for the end consumer, making a healthy profit, which has enabled many to expand their micro businesses. Thanks to Victory Farms’ cold chain, our fish go from lake to plate within 48 hrs.
Ruto also opened the Suba South UDA Office and addressed the people and traders of Sindo Town in the company of Governor Gladys Wanga, Cabinet Secretaries Salim Mvurya, Kipchumba Murkomen, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, MPs Caroli Omondi (Suba South), David Ochieng’ (Ugenya), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), among others, and a host of MCAs.
