Prime CS Urges Hospitality Sector to revamp

Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi has urged leaders from the tourism sector to bring innovative solutions, so as to build lasting growth trajectory in the hospitality industry.

Speaking Monday during the ongoing Africa Hospitality Investment Forum (AHIF) at Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi, Mudavadi called on the tourism sector to partner with the policy makers to provide positive reception to attract and change the hospitality landscape all together.

The PCS also highlighted the critical role of policymakers in making Africa more inviting to foreign investments and addressing key challenges in job creation and technology.

“There are a lot of issues that could be tackled through your influence, so that we have better hospitality in Kenya,” said Mudavadi, adding that the tourism sector has massively contributed to the growth of the most receptive destination sites in the hospitality industry, making Kenya to be the best tourist destination in East Africa.

Further, Mudavadi urged the hospitality industry to provide job opportunities to narrow down the gaps of unemployment in Kenya.

"We want to see and witness more employment and more capacity building initiated within the hospitality sector," he stated.

Additionally, the PCS has said that Kenya has zero security nightmare for tourists out to enjoy their adventurous stay in Kenya.

At the same forum, Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage CS Peninah Malonza was one of the panelists during a session on ‘collaborating for a sustainable future: the role of government partnerships in developing tourism regions and zones.’

“The AHIF programme covers a wide range of topics, including global risks and their impacts on Africa’s hospitality industry, achieving net-zero targets, implementing environmental, social and governance strategies,” she said.

Also under focus is access to capital, transformational travel, hotel development challenges and opportunities, hotel financing criteria, successful tourism entrepreneurship, operational excellence, importance of human skills, alternative accommodation, emerging market dynamics, the latest trends, and the future of hospitality investment in Africa, among others,” added Malonza.
