Over 51 persons living with various disabilities in Sergoit Ward in Moiben Sub-County have benefited from assistive devices courtesy of the Uasin Gishu County government.
The County Department for Social Protection launched an exercise that will see persons living with disabilities in five Wards in the County benefit from aiding devices.
Speaking during the distribution of the devices in the Sergoit Ward, Director of Social Protection, Meshack Chemwor, affirmed the County’s commitment to helping persons with disabilities saying this was a key pillar in Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi manifesto.
Among the devices the beneficiaries received were ordinary wheelchairs and special wheelchairs for those with autism.
Chemwor asked parents with children with disabilities not to hide them as the County has a plan to help them.
Member of the County Assembly for Sergoit Ward, David Keitany, said the exercise will go a long way in helping the mobility of people with disabilities.
The County legislator noted that the exercise has enabled them to know some of the challenges that persons with disabilities are facing which need to be addressed.
“My plan is to ensure that every person living with a disability in this Ward gets the support he/she needs,” assured the MCA, while thanking the County for the donation.
