Raila Odinga unveils pan-African vision and strategic priorities in Addis Ababa

In an historic speech at AUC, veteran political leader and reformist Raila Odinga shared his dream for the destiny of the African continent.

The opposition leader spoke before a gathering of dignitaries, policymakers, and stakeholders and centered unity and cooperation among African nations as vital to spur growth and development.

It is a strong articulation of a narrative by Odinga of an Africa that should be "united, prosperous, competitive, peaceful, revered, and influential" to the world.

He urged African nations to use their strengths and resources together to drive the continent toward innovation and progress.

"I have unveiled my vision and priorities for the African continent," Odinga said. "The youth will lead in this transformation; innovation propelled by artificial intelligence and data, smart farming, telemedicine, and accessible forward-looking education."

This calls for more youths to participate in the activity, hence a growing appreciation that young people will occupy the center stage in the future development of Africa.

With Odinga, it is technology applied at the center of it all, from agriculture to modern industry, using Africa as a platform for technological development.

He outlined that artificial intelligence and big data have the potential to transform industries, raise education outcomes, and promote health across the continent.

According to him, smart farming can help Africa ensure food security and more environmentally friendly agricultural practices for the benefit of millions of its citizens.

He went further to call for telemedicine programs that would further expand the reach of healthcare into rural and underserved areas.

"We must make sure that every African has access to quality healthcare," affirmed Odinga, his words showing determination that disparities in health services should be addressed.

Odinga's speech amused the gathering as most of the people showed their expectations in the strategic areas of focus presented by his address.

He called for partnerships between governments, the private sector, and academia in the quest for these programs.

Through partnership building, he says African countries stand a better chance of facing common challenges.

The event was closed with the call for all African countries to join this vision and translate these words into action.

"Together, we can build Africa as a global leader and changemaker," concluded Odinga, sending off attendees with a lasting impression of change that might possibly sweep through the continent.

Africa, standing as it is at this crossroads, needs those like Raila Odinga to help shape a hopeful narrative toward a united and progressive future reverberating with the aspirations of millions across the continent.
