Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has maintained that another round of demonstration against the high cost of living was underway.

He called on Azimio followers to prepare to participate in the forthcoming demonstrations in the wake of the enactment of the finance bill. He said the protests were planned to begin on July 7th, a day popularly referred to as the saba saba.

“I want you to get ready for July 7th. You need to show the world that you’re not pleased with the current situation in the country,” Odinga said.

Speaking at Homa Bay stadium during the Luo cultural festivals, Odinga faulted the government for increasing the prices of fuel thus impacting on the cost of basic commodities.

Odinga said the world was watching the unraveling events in Kenya noting that the poverty levels were spiraling.

The Azimio leader was in Homa Bay for a two day Luo cultural event dubbed 'Piny Luo' where residents drawn from the four Luo Nyanza counties of Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya and Kisumu showcased the Luo material culture.

Odinga was accompanied by senior political leaders including Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), James Orengo (Siaya) and Abdulswamad Nasir (Mombasa). Others were Senators Moses Kajwang, Oburu Oginga and Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.

Odinga hailed the spirit of unity brought about by the cultural festival. "I am happy with you for coming in large numbers to partake in showcasing our culture. We thank organizers for such a wonderful event," he added.

Governor Wanga said Odinga has the interest of the common man at heart which has made him popular across the country. “We are behind Jakom (Raila) because he fights for the benefit of the common man,” Wanga said.

Orengo called on members of the community to stay united and engage in development pursuits. “Let’s not allow people with vested interests to divide us. We are always behind Raila Odinga as our leader,” Orengo said.
