Renegade Air set for Homabay inaugural flight

By Peter Ochieng

Renegade air is putting it's house in order, for the inaugural flight from Wilson airport, Nairobi to Kabunde airstrip in Homabay County.

On Tuesday, Homabay Governor Gladys Nyasuna Wanga and Ishmael Yakub, Renegade air Chief Executive Officer (CEO) toured the airstrip, ahead of the inaugural flight.

The date for the maiden flight is 12th June, 2023.

Governor Wanga said the move will open up the county, in the long run creating employment opportunities especially for the youth.

"Once operational, it is expected to open up Homabay County to the world, create job opportunities especially to the youth, and ease movement of people, goods and services nonetheless making Homabay the epicenter of western tourism circuit."

Patrick Oketch, Renegade air's Head of Sales and Marketing agrees.

"It will open up the entire region; from Homabay to Migori, Nyamira and areas such as Kisii," Oketch told Nairobi Review via a phone interview.

"There is demand. The flights from Nairobi - Homabay are going to attract investors because of the convenient travel," he added.

He said job opportunities are bound to come, giving an example of taxi drivers being able to get clients due to increased activities at the airstrip.

Oketch said fish traders will also be able to fly their commodities to Nairobi, for possible better returns.

He said the airline will ply the Nairobi - Homabay route thrice per week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Tickets still be sold from Sh7, 600
