Over 500 Early childhood Development Education(ECDE) Teachers in Kisii County have received reprieve after area Governor Simba Arati moved to translate their terms of employment from Contract to permanent and pensionable.
However, speaking during a meeting with over 700 ECDE teachers at Gusii stadium Wednesday, Arati noted that only those below 45 years will benefit from the package once due process has been followed.
“Those over 45 years cannot be employed on permanent and pensionable terms but will be retained on contract up to their retirement age because we cannot break the law,” said Arati.
Acknowledging the importance of ECDE as an integral part in the development of the young children psychologically, intellectually and socially, governor Arati said the county government had to ensure welfare of the teachers was prioritized by improving the working terms and equipping the learning centers.
He appealed to the public service board to expedite the review of engagement of those viable for placement to permanent employment to enable them serve effectively, the over 70,000 ECDE learners admitted in 703 centers across the county.
Governor Arati also urged the public service board to consider reviewing the case of nurses who were dismissed from the service in what he termed as unclear circumstances, two years ago under the previous regime.
