Residents of Lela in Maseno Kisumu County have raised an alarm calling on the police to move with speed and arrest the runaway insecurity in the area.
The residents yesterday were aggrieved following the killing of a form one student, a student at Kuoyo secondary school who was accosted and knifed severely by unknown people.
Kisumu North West MCA Vincent Jagongo called for speedy action by the police to ensure they beef up security in the Lela area of Maseno.
“The incident shocked us to the core and even tortured the learners at Kuoyo psychologically and it’s our plea that the police rise to the occasion and tame the flaring insecurity in the area. It’s the responsibility of the police to ensure the village is safe because such incidences cause a lot of unrest among the locals,” noted Jagongo.
The residents expressed fear that if such incidents could happen in the village and go uninvestigated, then that would cause a lot of anxiety among the residents hence urged the police to institute thorough investigations into the incidence and ensure the culprits are brought to book.
Jagongo further called on the police to thoroughly and speedily conclusively address the rising insecurity in the area which has now become a matter of critical concern to all the local leaders even as he called on the Kisumu West sub county Police Commandant to beef up security in the area as a matter of urgency.
“There is a police post stationed right here in the ward and even a police station at the nearby Maseno hence we fail to understand why matter security must be that bad here,” decried Jagongo
Jagongo called on the police manning Maseno ward to conduct frequent patrols aimed at addressing the runaway insecurity where people have been hacked to death and residents are now realizing that those committing the heinous crime were not the inhabitants but hailed from outside, perpetrate the crimes, then flee.
The MCA further challenged the police to ensure that all those arrested for various crimes are not set free but serve their due terms.
