Robert Alai: Ruto is among founders of ODM party
By Robert Mutasi
Member of the County Assembly for Kileleshwa Ward, Robert Alai has insisted that there is no problem if President Ruto decides to appoint any ODM member to his cabinet.
Alai through his social media platforms said that those who oppose the appointment of ODM members in President Ruto's cabinet should take their memories home and realize that Ruto is one of the founders of the ODM party.
According to the ODM MCA, Ruto as one of the founders of ODM almost 20 years ago, has every right to appoint an ODM member in his cabinet.
Alai strongly objected to some people in the opposition party who are threatening their members to reject government appointments if President Ruto recommends their names claiming that the appointments will not have received the blessings of the party leadership.
Alai suggesting nominated member of parliament John Mbadi to be finance minister, said that Ruto giving an ODM member a job in the government would be like returning thanks to the party that raised him in the political arena.
"Ruto is a founder member of ODM. If he decides to nominate any ODM to the cabinet, any idler in the party who claims to be an executive of the party shouldn’t block the nomination.
" Ruto will be saying thank you also to ODM for being the party that thrust him into the seriousness of political leadership. MP Mbadi can be the CS Treasury!" Said Alai.
Alai's statement comes after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, issued a letter warning members against accepting any appointment in government.
In the letter, Sifuna warned that whoever accepts the appointment in the government will be doing so his own volition and it will not be a decision by the party leaders.
Member of Parliament for Homabay Town Peter Kaluma strongly criticized Sifuna for the letter saying that this was not the decision they agreed on in the party's general meeting a few days ago.
Kaluma said that they may start the process of removing Sifuna from the position of secretary of the party because he published a statement that contradicts the decision that was collectively made during the ODM general meeting.
