Jaramogi Oginga hospital receives equipment to boost oxygen therapy services

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu, has received a major boost in the arm, as far as oxygen therapy services is concerned.

This follows the donation of ten wall flow meters presented by Dr.Beason Soita, the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) champion on behalf of Vayu Global Health.

The facility previously relied on single oxygen flow meters, which were less versatile and limited in capacity.

The new wall flow meters are pressure-compensated, ensuring accurate oxygen delivery regardless of variations in pressure.

This feature is particularly crucial for maintaining consistent care for critically ill patients.

In addition, each wall flow meter can serve two patients simultaneously, thus increasing the hospital's capacity to provide oxygen therapy in high-demand areas.

These wall flow meters will be strategically deployed across key units, including the Newborn Unit (NBU), maternity theatre, labor ward, and the Obama Children Hospital wards like the High Dependency Unit, where the demand for oxygen therapy is highest.

The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, expressed his gratitude for the donations.

"We are grateful for this kind gesture. It is very important in advancing patient care," he said.

JOOTRH has also strengthened its capacity for neonatal and pediatric respiratory support with a total of 41 CPAP machines now in operation.

Among these, 17 were donated by Vayu Global Health, 20 by USAID, and 4 by Hatch Technologies.

The health facility is fully furnished to handle respiratory challenges, particularly in neonates and young children, reducing preventable complications and improving survival rates.
