President William Ruto’s visit to Nyanza will not sway residents into shifting their fanatical support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, National Assembly Minority Leader, Opiyo Wandayi has said.
Wandayi said that the region was fully behind the Azimio la Umoja One-Kenya leader and the warm welcome accorded to the Head of State who is currently in Nyanza was natural for the locals.
Speaking in his Ugunja Constituency Saturday, Wandayi called on President Ruto to rein in his cronies who, he alleged, were careless in their public utterances and exploiting the situation to make political capital out of the President’s visit.
Wandayi, who is also the ODM Director for Political affairs urged politicians affiliated to the President’s UDA party to respect the leadership in Nyanza and the residents.
“The region is fully behind the Orange Democratic Movement and its leader, Raila Odinga,” he said adding that anybody who wants support from the area must go through the former prime minister to court residents.
Wandayi at the same time accused President Ruto of giving the locals a raw deal in his current tour of Nyanza, adding that there was nothing tangible that he has come with from the national government.
He said that the President was riding on “lesser” projects financed by the counties and was ignoring stalled national government projects such as the River Nzoia Bridge that connects Ugenya and Ugunja constituencies.
“Ruto should leave governors and their able members of the county assemblies to commission some of these projects” he said.
