Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has alleged that a section of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto had a discussion within Parliament on an alleged plot to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday March 28, Opiyo supported claims by President Uhuru Kenyatta that his DP wanted to oust him, adding that he had several MPs discussing the matter on corridors within Parliament.
According to Wandayi, the alleged talks happened in the 11th Parliament. He, however, did not reveal the exact content of the talks or the persons involved, arguing that whatever is discussed in Parliament is privileged information.
“I was in Parliament, there were talks from some of the Ruto MPs trying to see, test the waters that you guys that if we did initiate such a thing would you play along…It is not empty talk, the Deputy President must come out, if you can plot to remove your own boss, what can you do with power if you get it?” Wandayi posed.
“You may actually move to change the Constitution and that is our main fear… If ever in the unlikely event Ruto gets to power, he is likely to emulate his friend across the border and attempt to change the Constitution to remove the term limits for the president,” Wandayi added.

According to reports on Standard, the President told elders that his DP had tried approaching ODM leader Raila Odinga over the alleged impeachment.
“The president informed us that Ruto was going behind his back, planning how he could close ranks with Raila to impeach him at an appropriate time,” Mathioya MP Peter Kimari who was present at the State House meeting told Standard.
Reacting to the reports,DP Ruto while campaigning in Kilifi County on Sunday termed them as mere propaganda.
"Hata kama hamtaki kuniunga mkono, wacheni porojo na propaganda ya bure. Wacheni kugawanya wakenya. Eti William Ruto anaweza kupindua mtu ambaye niliweka kwa ofisi?
"Mimi ni mtu mzima, mimi si mlevi, mimi si wazimu ati niweke serikali ndani halafu niende niifanyie njama ya kuipindua," the DP said.
