Jannik Sinner is a triple Masters 1000 champion after clinching his fifth title of the season at the Cincinnati Open Men’s singles Final on Tuesday in Toronto.
The World number overcame Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4) 6-2, in one hour and 37 minutes, showing that despite recent health struggles he will still be the man to beat at the upcoming U.S. Open just a week away.
The victory moved Sinner to 15-4 in tour-level finals. He now owns an ATP Tour-leading five trophies this season following triumphs in Melbourne, Rotterdam, Miami and Halle, and is the only player to claim two ATP Masters 1000 crowns in 2024.
Sinner survived a scare against Alexander Zverev to claim a 7-6(9) 5-7 7-6(4) victory in the semi Finals.
In the Women's singles Finals, World Number 3 Aryna Sabalenka put on a show to defeat Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 on straight sets to capture her 15th career title, her first in Cincinnati.
Aryna claimed her 2nd title of the season and 6th WTA 1000.
Sabalenka defeated World Number 1 Iga Swiatek 6-3, 6-3 on her TENTH match point at the Semis while National Bank champion Jessica Pegula defeated Spanish Bardosa to head to the finals.
