Several feared dead in Migori accident
Several people are feared dead, following a Saturday morning accident in Migori town.
The accident occurred after the driver of a truck lost control and rammed into several motorbikes and vehicles.
Nyanza regional police commander Manasse Musyoka confirmed the road carnage.
He said police have joined in the rescue operations.
Some of the injured boda boda riders were taken to various hospitals around Migori.
"We understand a driver or some lorry lost its control and ploughed into a crowd. Very unfortunate,” said the police boss.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga was among the first leaders to sent condolence message to families who lost their loved ones, in the morning accident.
"I offer my deepest sympathies to all those who have lost their loved ones, friends, and colleagues in the tragic accident that occurred this morning at the boda boda stage in Migori town," wrote Odinga, in a statement.
Preliminary reports indicate that 8 people have lost their lives, with host of others injured.
The Chairman of the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) Peter Anyang' Nyong'o also sent a messages of condolences.
Nyong'o who is also the Kisumu Governor described the early morning accident as spine-chilling.
"I wish, on behalf of the LREB leadership and the people of Kisumu to condole with Governor Ochillo Ayacko, the families of those killed and the people of Migori. It is a sad Easter for all of us," said Prof Nyong'o.
He wished the injured quick recovery.
