Shollei defends housing levy
By Robert Mutasi
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Shollei, has firmly defended the housing levy, stating that it will benefit Kenyan citizens.
Shollei explained that the housing levy will lead to the construction of decent houses that are affordable for Kenyans.
She emphasized that building affordable houses will reduce the number of slums in the country and solve the issue of homelessness.
The Deputy Speaker has insisted that the housing levy is in the interest of all Kenyans and not just the hustlers who voted for President William Ruto.
She has stated that the levy will save Kenyans from having to pay high rent and water bills.
However, she has urged those who are opposed to the housing levy, which is in the Finance Bill 2023, to propose an alternative that will help to accommodate the common citizens.
During a ceremony in Narok West Constituency, President William Ruto called upon all Kenya Kwanza Members of Parliament to vote on the Finance Bill when it is tabled in Parliament this week.
Ruto warned Kenya Kwanza MPs who will oppose the bill that they will face consequences.
Shollei has condemned Azimio la Umoja allies who are opposing the bill, stating that they should not blackmail the public since the bill is meant to cater to the needs of Kenyans who voted for them.
