Somalia backs Raila for AU Commission Chair

Somalia has declared to support Raila Odinga for African Union Commission Chair.
Somalia announced their stand through their Former Foreign Affairs Minister Fawzia Yusuf Adam.
The Former Minister paid a courtesy call the Former Prime Minister on Friday, August 9, 2024.
She promised Raila that Somalia will fully stand with him to ensure he emerges with victory.
Odinga appreciated Somalia for their support and promised solve issues that have been facing their country for many years..
"Grateful for her support in my bid for AUC Chair. Wishing her all the best as she continues to champion Africa’s progress," said Raila on a post.
"Glad to have discussed key issues regarding our continent with Fawzia Yusuf H. Adam, former Somalia Foreign Affairs Minister," part of the post stated.
Raila revealed through his social media platforms that they also discussed with Adam relevant issues.
In a few days, President William Ruto met with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar to ask Mauritius to support Raila AU bid.
Angola, Mauritius and Ghana are among countries who backed Odinga for the AU Commission Chair bid.
Raila is competing with Mahamud Ali Youssouf for AU succession in February, 2025.
Moussa Faki Mahamat from Chad is the AU chair since 2017.
This is his second term that will see him vacate the office in February, 2025.
