By Peter Ochieng
Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Jack Oraro has given a clarification on loss of property at the Assembly.
Earlier reports indicated that unknown people broke into the Assembly, which is a stones-throw away from the Kisumu Central Police Station, and made away with various equipment and documents, including Hansard records.
However, in a press statement, Oraro said the Kisumu County Assembly Hansard records are not missing.
"The true position is that unidentified individuals gained unauthorized access to the assembly chambers and absconded with several TV screens and an audio mixer. We would like to clarify that the Hansard records, which are of utmost importance to us, remain intact and have not been tampered with in any way," said Oraro.
"As soon as the incident was discovered, it was promptly reported to the relevant authorities, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. We are utilizing all available resources, including CCTV footage and other sources of information, to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for this act."
He expressed confidence that the culprits will soon be brought to book, adding that the incident will in no way affect the Assembly's service delivery.
"We would like to assure the public and all stakeholders that this unfortunate incident will not disrupt the proceedings of the County Assembly. Our commitment to serving the people of Kisumu remains steadfast, and we will continue with our scheduled activities as planned. The assembly proceedings will proceed without interruption, and we will ensure that the business of governance continues without hindrance," added Oraro.
He urged members of the public with information on the incident, to come foward and assist police in their investigations.
