Students of both Primary and Secondary schools in Ting’ang’a, Kiambu County have received training on how to practice yoga that will improve their mental as well as physical health.

According to experts, Yoga offers physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages and if one is going through an illness, yoga can become an integral part of treatment and potentially hasten the healing.

Aveda Ayurveda Clinic, a Hindu organization from Parklands engaged the students who learned posture-based physical exercise, stress-relief tactics, and relaxation methods.

Speaking to the Media, the exercise’s instructor Dr Seema Sharma who guided the students through the activity said they decided to lend a helping hand to kids in schools saying that she loves to teach children since they are more physically adaptable and merely require instructions.

“Yoga training will enable students to focus on their studies, thus it is important to make efforts to improve their health and physical fitness. Yoga also lessens mental stress.” Said Sharma.

She also added that Aveda Ayurveda Clinic will be reaching out to other counties and they will be starting with Meru County, girls also received sanitary towels from the organization.

“Students in schools will begin practicing this physical, mental, and spiritual discipline, which will help them stay healthy and fit while they study “Sharma said.

Yoga is a type of exercise in which you move your body into different positions to become more fit or flexible, to improve your breathing, and to relax. There is no age limit in Yoga and any person can practice” Sharma said.

Regular exercise can improve physical health and lessen the burden of diseases like diabetes, obesity, and heart issues that are linked to societal development.

She further noted that yoga is for the fitness and anyone willing to be taught yoga should reach out to them.

“If you cannot sit on the ground, we will make you sit on the chair, we will teach slowly and you will go through minor exercises for 3 to 4 months for the exercises, so there is no bar or the limitation of age.” Said Sharma

Yoga is the union of the body and mind. It is a kind of meditation that includes breath control that incorporates certain physical postures to improve both physical and mental wellness.
