Stakeholders challenged to embrace CBC

Zizi Afrique Foundation Program officer David Alelah has challenged Education stakeholders to embrace Competency Based Curriculum CBC since it addresses life skills needs to learners.

Speaking in Thingithu Secondary in Nanyuki town during Rift Valley Regional Kenya Primary School Heads Teachers Association (KEPSHA) annual conference, said that life skills are important subjects that should be adopted for a better society.

Zizi Afrique is a non-governmental organization that is geared towards improving learning outcomes for vulnerable children in East Africa.

He noted that it was everyone’s responsibility to collectively work towards supporting learners in primary schools in understanding real-life issues.

Alelah revealed that his organization had conducted research to establish levels of problem skills, self-awareness, respect and collaboration on about 17,276 adolescents drawn from 20 counties. He noted the findings showed that five percent of the adolescents who participated in the survey demonstrated the highest proficiency levels on problem solving.

Nine percent are proficient in self-awareness, Six percent express high respect for others. Ten percent are proficient in collaboration.

Similarly, forty three percent of adolescents can read a grade 4 text. Fifty percent of adolescents could access the internet with ease.

The conference ended yesterday.
