Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi responded to the remarks of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka resisting to join the Kenya Kwanza government.
In his response, Sudi urged Sifuna and Kalonzo to combine and form formidable opposition.
Sudi gave the Nairobi senator advice on Thursday, July 25, 2024, via a statement on his social media accounts, citing divisions within the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition.
Edwin Sifuna, as a lawyer of high repute, feel free to enjoy your constitutional right and team up with Kalonzo Musyoka to form a formidable opposition," Sudi noted.
The announcement follows President William Ruto's nomination of four senior ODM officials to serve in his broad-based government proposal, which aims to represent the nation and maintain stability.
Speaking on Thursday, July 25, 2024 , on Citizen TV, Sifuna stated that the ODM party had not recommended any of its four members be appointed to Ruto's general government.
According to the senator, their appointment does not reflect the party's standing in Ruto's administration.
Sifuna stated that he anticipates the members submitting their letters of resignation prior to their review by Parliament.
"I expect that at the end of the day or before they go to be vetted, we will receive these people who resigned from their positions within the party, this is my expectation because the law is that they cannot enter the Cabinet as political members of the parties," Sifuna said.
In particular for Gen Z and millennials, Kalonzo noted that joining the proposed government of national unity would be a betrayal.
ODM chairman John Mbadi was nominated by Ruto for CS Treasury and National Planning, Hassan Joho for CS Mining, Wycliffe Oparanya for CS Cooperatives, and leader of the Minority Opiyo Wandayi for CS Energy and Petroleum.
Asserting that the new cabinet reflected the face of the nation, Sudi congratulated the ODM nominees for cabinet secretary positions on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
" I congratulate all Cabinet nominees announced by President Ruto to support him achieve his dream for Kenya. The list represents meritocracy, inclusivity and 1 Kenya at a time when Kenyans are yearning for stability. I ask Kenyans to support the President's broad-based government," Sudi said on X.
