There was drama at Sondu Primary School in Kisumu County on Sunday after police stormed a Kenya Kwanza meeting and dispersed all participants from the venue. A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders from Gusii region had met supporters from North Mugirango to consult on several issues before police brought the meeting to an end. Leaders who were present in the meeting include; Nyamira gubernatorial aspirant Walter Nyambati, MPs;  Joash Nyamoko(North Mugirango), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba) among others. Addressing the media after leaving the venue, the leaders accused the police of being used to play politics, adding that the Constitution provides for freedom of association and expression. We do not want a situation whereby police officers are being used to intimidate Kenyans who have freedom of holding meetings in their own country, " Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose was quoted by the Star. The leaders cautioned against such disruption arguing that they may cause anxiety and tension now that we are heading closer to the elections. "We cannot be intimidated, we are here lawfully and police should cease such coward actions, this is our country and we have every right to be anywhere," West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi was quoted. By press time, the police had not released an official statement as to why the meeting was disrupted. In the past year, police mostly disrupted political meetings over violation of Covid-19 protocols, but now that most measures were lifted, it is not clear why the meeting was stopped.
