A charity Organization in Kakamega has stepped up efforts to eliminate Sexual and Gender-Based Violence as the World Marks 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The Charity Organization, Kakamega Widows Empowerment Project(KCWEP), is implementing a project dubbed Tetea to tackle GBV in Shinyalu and Malava sub Counties.
The project is funded by the European Union in which KCWEP is partnering with the International Committee for the Development of People(CISP) and a consortium of seven other partners.
KCWEP and CISP have scaled up activities including training of Community Health Promoters and Child Protection Volunteers in Kakamega on a para-professional course.
KCWEP held a training of the Court Users Committee(CUC) on the Children’s Act 2022 as part of an empowerment to service providers to help in tackling violence.
The Director of KCWEP Mwanzi Jerry said that the sensitization of CUCs will be vital in helping the organization implement the Tetea Project which runs for 3 years.
The program Officer for CISP Miriam Maliro made a commitment that stakeholders would ensure that women and Children in Kakamega are protected against any forms of violence.
“We will ensure children and women are protected with the constitution of Kenya and the Children’s Act 2022, through preventing, advocating and responding,” she noted.
The Kakamega County Coordinator of Children Services Geoffrey Musoko said they will be firm to respond and tackle cases of GBV while offering counseling to survivors.
