Youth have been urged to be cautious in their social media dealings, so as to avoid falling prey to predators occupying the space.
Speaking during a thanksgiving giving service at ACK St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral church grounds in Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said it is saddening that young people are losing lives after being lured via social media.
"There are predators who are moving to social media, they are luring our young children; both boys and girls are being lured and we are beginning to see some of them losing lives," he said.
Mudavadi who doubles up as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said religious leaders have a big role to play, in terms of sensitising the youth on dangers of social media.
"I really want to appeal to the leadership of the church and more so to the youth. They must make it clear that on social media, there are predators."
"Let us caution our children that as much as we embrace technology, as much as we embrace better communication, let us be careful," he added.
The former Vice President said Kenya's economic challenges are far from over, but assured that things will get better.
"Kenya shall stand and we shall all succeed."
Cabinet Secretary (CS) for ICT and the Digital Economy Eliud Owalo on his part said President William Ruto, is working round the clock to develop all parts of the country.
"We want to sort out water, we want to sort out roads, we want to sort out electricity. We want to empower our women, we want to empower our youth."
He said the launch of state-of-the-art digital laboratories and free Wi-Fi hotspots is gathering pace across the country, in a bid to bridge the digital divide and empower the youth in the country.
On his part, Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka made a passionate plea for national unity as Kenya navigates through difficult economic times.
"When you find yourselves in a ditch, you don't fight each other. You work together so that you come out of the ditch."
Before the service, the leaders and the clergy officially opened the ACK Trinity Church House.
The 7-storey building was put up at a cost of Sh214 million.
