A Kabarnet court has allowed the police to detain for 14 days three men charged with killing a man to enable investigations to be completed.

Senior Principal Magistrate Ms. Purity Kosgei granted the Investigating Officer Mr. Stephene Namisi the request after he filed a miscellaneous application for a possible murder case.

Namisi told the court that the three suspects Thomas Kipkorir, Stephen Kiprop and Kimoron Kabutiei allegedly jointly murdered Frankline Kibowen on October 13, this year, at Sesya location within Baringo central sub-county, Baringo County, at an unknown time of the day.

He said that Kipkorir was arrested that same day in the afternoon within the neighborhood whereas Kiprop and Kabutiei were arrested the following day at Tenges Trading Centre aboard a public service vehicle en route to Eldama Ravine and were temporarily booked at Tenges police station in the evening.

They were escorted to Kabarnet police station on October 15 and booked in police custody in relation to the offence of murder.

Namisi in his application stated that investigations are not complete and needed time to enable witnesses to record statements and other culprits involved to be arrested.

“I pray this court to remand the suspects at Kabarnet police station to enable us complete investigations because if released they are likely to abscond and the public is hostile to them,” he said.

The investigating officer further said that an autopsy on the deceased is yet to be performed to ascertain the cause of his death.

In her ruling, the Magistrate said that she had taken into account the prayer from the investigating officer and ordered the trio be detained in custody pending the conclusion of investigations within 14 days.

“I find complete reasons given, application is allowed and the suspects will be held at Kabarnet Police Station for 14 days awaiting completion of investigations,” said Kosgei.

Kosgei at the same time called for the suspects to be escorted to Baringo County Referral Hospital for mental assessment before taking a plea and the case will come up for mention on October 30.
