A man who caused grievous harm to his colleague leading to permanent loss of eyesight has been committed to serve three years in jail.

James Munene Mugo was sentenced by Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku for a charge that on August 6 this year in Loitoktok town, he assaulted Wesley Yego causing him permanent body injury.

While testifying before the court, Yego had narrated how Munene arrived at a local bar in Loitoktok town and demanded a beer from him to settle an old score.

However, when he refused, the accused picked a rod and started attacking the complainant causing him injury to his right eye which led to loss of his sight.

Yego was rescued by other revelers who were in the bar and escorted to Loitoktok Sub County hospital for medical examination.

Later he reported the matter at Loitoktok Police Station where the accused was arrested and charged with the offence before being arraigned in court where he denied committing the offence.

In his defence, Munene claimed that the complainant was assaulted after he found was with someone’s wife.

However, the court found the allegation by the accused as an afterthought and noted that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The accused has 14 days to appeal against the sentence.
