Tongaren Member of Parliament (MP) John Murumba Chikati is the new Ford Kenya Secretary General (SG).
He succeeds former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa who landed the post of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in President William Ruto’s administration.
Addressing the press in Bungoma on Sunday after his election was confirmed, Chikati thanked Ford Kenya leaders led by party leader Moses Wetang’ula for trusting in his ability to steer the lion outfit to greater heights.
“I want to appreciate the confidence the Ford Kenya community has had in me. I will do my best to take the party from where my brother Chris Wamalwa left to another level, so that at the end of the day the community of Ford Kenya can see that we are making progress,” he said.
“We are not going to fold Ford Kenya at all; I must make that very clear. Ford Kenya is going to strengthen itself first, and then strengthen the Kenya Kwanza fraternity,” he added.
Millicent Abudho, one of Ford Kenya's three Deputy party leaders welcomed Chikati aboard, stating that much is expected of him going forward.
“The people of this country expect much from you and we hope you are going to deliver the mandate that the people and the management of Ford Kenya has given you. We are going to work together, plus the grassroots leaders to build the party,” she said.
Outgoing SG Chris Wamalwa congratulated Chikati after he emerged winner among applicants who had expressed the desire to hold the position.
“I am proud to say that among the applicants, it is John Chikati Murumba, the MP of Tongaren who emerged the winner to take over the Secretary General position. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate him. As you know, the Secretary General is the spokesperson of the party, is the head of the Secretariat of Ford Kenya.”
Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka is now Ford Kenya’s 1st Deputy Party leader.
