Two security guards were on Saturday night killed by armed thugs who broke into business stalls in Kisumu City's Central Business District (CBD).

The guards who were manning stalls located behind Telkom Plaza were attacked by the thugs in the dead of the night before carting away goods of unknown value.

Confirming the incident Kisumu Central Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Jackton Mango said the guards who died on the spot were hit by blunt objects on their heads.

Mango said the two were suspected to have been asleep during the attack since their bodies were found in sitting position on their chairs.

According to the police, the robbers who are still at large, broke into three electronics shops in the area and carted away goods of unknown value.

Police officers processed the scene and moved the bodies to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) morgue.

Mango said investigations have been launched into the incident urging members of the public to work with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.

He asked businessmen and residents on Kisumu to remain calm adding that police officers have intensified patrols to ensure that the lakeside city remains safe.
