A case in which two students are charged with arson has been adjourned to January next year.

The case was adjourned as the Magistrate handling it had to attend court users meeting.

Brian Gakombe and Shandrack Lemayian, Form three students at Ilkisonko Boys High school in Loitoktok Sub County are accused of setting on fire a school dormitory and students’ personal items worth Sh9,474, 905 affecting 195 learners, which happened on September 12 this year.

According to prosecution, on the material day at around 12.30 noon Gakombe had left class and gone to the toilet adjacent to the said dormitory.

While there, he saw Lemayian holding a rolled blanket, who requested him to stand on guard, as he prepared to set the dormitory on fire through an open window.

When Lemayian set the dormitory on fire, Gakombe got frightened, ran towards the class and met another student, Samuel Lotero who noticed smoke coming from the dormitory and informed one of the teachers.

The school principal Daniel Makau alerted fire fighters who arrived and extinguished the fierce inferno.

The two were arrested and escorted to Loitoktok police station and charged with the offence.

The matter has been fixed for hearing on January 24, 2024.
