The recently inaugurated Multi-Agency Stakeholder Working Group on the Two-thirds Gender Principle held its inception meeting Monday at the State Department for Gender headquarters on Teleposta Towers.
State department for Gender Principal Secretary Veronica Nduva lauded the team for their appointment to the Working Group and called for their utmost commitment and support for the realisation of the two-thirds gender principle.
Ms Nduva cited Articles 27 (8) and Article 81 of the Kenyan Constitution that provides that no more than two-thirds of the members in any elective or appointive positions such shall be of the same gender.
“This is an affirmative action aimed at reducing the gender imbalances in leadership positions and also goes a long way in promoting the inclusivity and non-discrimination principles particularly to the Kenyan women who have remained excluded in leadership and decision-making arena,” said Nduva.
The PS thanked President William Samoei Ruto for his show of patriotism, goodwill and commitment to re-engineer the debate and possible implementation of the Two Thirds Gender Principle.
Ms Nduva encouraged the Working Group to steer and realise this noble promise of the President for the good of the Kenyan women promising the full support of the State Department for Gender in realising the Two-thirds Gender Principle.
