President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, March 26, 2022 hosted a delegation of  Kikuyu council of elders at State House, where he reportedly explained reasons behind his fallout with his deputy William Ruto. According to the Head of State, the fallout with his deputy ws mainly attributed to, the latter’s impatience, sabotage and raw hunger for power. A report by Citizen TV said President Kenyatta reportedly told the elders that the DP undermined his leadership, adding that he was alleging pushing for his ouster by inciting a section of Jubilee Party legislators. The President also used the meeting to share the vision of his handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga, noting that it was meant to stabilize government and ease political tension in the country. Despite he fact that President Kenyatta’s term is set to elapse in August 2022, the elders unanimously agreed that Uhuru should remain the community leader of the Mt.Kenya region even after his retirement. The elders’ backing comes at a time when pundits have been questioning whether President Kenyatta still holds control of the region. With the backing it is clear that the president still enjoys support from the region and will therefore play an important role in the 2022presidential election.
