University of Nairobi appoints acting VC, as Kiama takes leave

University of Nairobi (UoN) has an acting Vice Chancellor (VC) in the frame of Professor Julius Ogeng'o.
He took up the new role effective 1st August, 2023.
Ogeng'o will be at the helm for six months, as UoN's Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Kiama takes leave.
Kiama will he back early next year.
University of Nairobi's Director of Corporate Affairs John Orindi, in an internal memo said Kiama requested for a sabbatical leave until end of January, 2024.
He however did not disclose the reason for his request for a sabbatical.
"This is to inform you that the Council of the University of Nairobi, during its special meeting on 31st July 2023, approved the Vice Chancellor's request dated 28th July 2023 to proceed on leave for a period of six months with effect from 1st August 2023."
Ogeng'o is a professor of human anatomy and currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor, academic affairs.
Kiama took over as UON Vice Chancellor in January, 2020 to serve for a five-year term that is set to end in 2025.
